Nyang’oma Girls Primary School in Bondo sub county posted a sterling performance in the recently released KCPE 2021 exams after the school emerged one of the best performing schools in Siaya county.

The school, which registered 30 candidates, had a mean of 363.9 up from 330 in 2020.

Maths was the most improved subject in the school and the school’s performance in Maths was one of the best in the region.

The institution’s head teacher Mrs. Beatrice Akoth Okoth expressed satisfaction at the school’s exemplary performance adding that the results were a culmination of hard work and determination from the dedicated teaching staff and disciplined learners.

“We attribute the impressive results to the Almighty God who guided us in all our endeavors. I would like to thank the teaching staff for sacrificing their times and teaching even during odd hours. The BOM has also been supportive and offered guidance where necessary,” she said.

She blamed the moderation system of marking for knocking out potential candidates from attaining 400 marks.

“Though we have recorded a 100% pass as a school, we believe that a good number of our candidates didn’t score 400 marks due to the moderation system of marking exams. We had hoped that more than 10 candidates would score over 400 but we are okay with the results anyway,” remarked Mrs. Okoth.

The deputy head teacher Sister Mary Collete, who also doubled as the class teacher of the candidate class, noted that they employed a myriad of methodologies to get the good results.

“We ensured that counseling was done appropriately so that candidates’ needs are addressed. “ She said.

Alice Ivy Gombe emerged the best pupil in the institution after scoring 408 marks out of 500 marks.  She was closely followed by Claris Adhiambo (402 marks) and Cheryl Dorcas (400 marks).

Gombe, who aspires to join Lugulu Girls High School, thanked the teachers for being pivotal in her success.

She also appreciated her parents for walking her through her primary education.
