Ecuador will be living in one of the longest holidays from today and with the biggest reduction in health restrictions in almost two years of the epidemic.

“This is a holiday with minimal restrictions, so expect a fairly high movement, it will be a high-intensity holiday,” said Juan Zapata, president of the National COE, on February 24.

According to Japata, the main destinations will be the coastal axis and the provinces of Sierra Centro and Astro, where there are traditional carnival activities.

Vice Minister of Health Jose Rouelles noted that the use of masks has not been eliminated and that there is an obligation to use them in open and closed places and on public transport.

Other biological safety measures must also be maintained, such as physical distance, ventilation of the place and frequent hand washing or use of alcohol gel.

He emphasized that the presentation of a certificate, including a QR code or vaccine card, was mandatory for all unnecessary activities and in public places.

As a matter of fact, since January 21, the National COE has removed the epidemic-related traffic lights and with it the power has changed outside and inside the house.

Authorities have determined that the outside power is 100% where 80% for necessary activities like market, financial entity, government services.

For non-essential activities, such as restaurants, movies, circuses, theaters, food and beverages without sale or eating, gym and spa, 80% of the permitted capacity is indoors. Bars, karaoke bars, nightclubs, tolerance centers and the like, it’s 60% inside and 75% outside.

For outdoor spaces like beaches and parks, the capacity is 100%. Also, as a precautionary measure against Covid-19, temperature capture was omitted.

Road network

To guarantee free mobility on the State Road Network (RVE), the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Marcelo Cabrera, arranged for operational technical personnel and 240 units of road equipment and road patrols. The purpose is to attend to possible emergencies caused by rain.

Of the 10,264 kilometers of the state network, 6,200 kilometers are in good condition and about 4,000 kilometers are carefully guarded.

On the other hand, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INAMHI) has forecast that there will be rain and thunderstorms during the holidays. Guillermo Flores, an analyst at Prognosis Inamahri, explains that Quito residents can enjoy the morning sun in the capital. The maximum temperature will reach 20 degrees Celsius and the minimum 19 degrees Celsius. The sky is expected to be cloudy and rainy for the afternoon.

On the coast, Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Los Ríos and Manabí and Guayas sectors will receive frequent rains.

The weather will be cloudy and rainy in the eastern cities like Koka, Puyo and Tena.

Breaks are mandatory for carnival, but those who work these days must accept a payment with a 100% surcharge.

Private banks will only focus on companies that work late hours. The Association of Private Banks of Ecuador (ASOBANCA) recommends that users consult the bank’s official channels, which agencies will be able to cover two days of vacation and its duration.
